WHY I WANT TO DO THIS!

When I was about 18 I attended an information session on Natural Fertility Awareness which blew me away. I was struck by the beauty, intricacy and logicality of the way a woman's fertility works. In the years following, I attended other sessions, read materials, chatted to friends and teachers who knew much about these methods and waxed lyrical about it all to anyone who would listen. 3 years ago I started learning to chart myself (I was taught by a NaPro practitioner - over skype!). The next stage on my journey is to learn to teach others!

Teaching women about their fertility, how to observe and understand its natural signs, empowers them to manage their fertility in a way that is natural, healthy and liberating. It also aids couples in mutual love, cooperation and respect for each other and their fertility. I feel passionate about widening knowledge of and access to natural fertility awareness and management. There is a shortage of qualified teachers to accompany women and couples in learning these methods. Having learnt about them myself over the last 10 years, I now want to become a qualified practitioner through the Creighton model FertilityCare charting system (part of NaPro Technology), which I consider to be the most thorough, reliable and scientific approach. I need your support to be able to raise the money required for the 13 month training programme, so as to embark on a career as a NaPro practitioner.

NAPRO

Natural Procreative Technology (NaProTechnology) is a medical approach to woman’s gynaecological health that integrates information from the woman’s cycle with other medical tests. I wish to train as a practitioner, with my specific role being the teaching of the Creighton model, but the beauty of this particular charting system is that, should I come across couples who are having difficulty conceiving a child, I could direct them to NaPro doctors who work with couples to try and address obstacles to conceiving naturally. 1 in 6 couples experience difficulty in conceiving! A study published in 2008 concluded: ‘NPT provided by trained general practitioners had live birth rates comparable to cohort studies of more invasive treatments, including ART’ (artificial reproductive technologies).

THE TRAINING

From October 2018 to November 2019, I will attend two intensive training programmes, complete assignments and examinations, and teach a number of individuals and couples, working under the supervision of a FertilityCare educator.

THE FUTURE

Once I am a qualified practitioner, as well as teaching individuals and couples, I will be able to lead general sessions to larger groups, for example in parishes at Marriage Prep days. I am excited to have the opportunity to spread this message far and wide!
