Story
On Sunday I will be going to the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon for 2 months to work for the charity Salam LADC in a refugee camp. On Monday I will begin leading an early childhood program to help educate the young through the creative subjects. This forms a part of the charity's Healing the Wounds of History program as they aim to stop the cycle of war and reduce the trauma from continuing to the next generation. This is where the use of creative therapy comes in, something that I am hugely passionate about, as they try to overcome psychological scars.
There are over 500,000 refugees in the Bekaa Valley, with some who have been there for over 5 years living in temporary housing. The work that I will be doing will be focusing on the young people within the community including helping with Salam's peace choir.
It is a small but incredibly effective charity that I was introduced to through my mother's charity Style for Soldiers and a man I hugely admire, Giles Duley, a war photographer who has been working in conflict zones for the past 15 years.
I would appreciate any support- no matter how small, it will go to an incredible cause and I will be working at the camp to see the results.
