Weʼve raised £4,771 to fund a memorial for Istvan Kakas.

    Bath, UK
Funded on Thursday, 20th December 2018

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

We want to give Istvan a good send off, for all the smiles, laughs and kindness he shared with us over the years at his beloved Halfpenny Bridge and beyond. Funds are needed to cover the cremation and a memorial service at Istvan's church, St Matthews at Widcombe. St Matthews is kindly providing the service for free, so funds will be used for refreshments, for materials to celebrate Istvan's life and a small plaque on Halfpenny Bridge . Any remaining funds will be donated to Dorothy House, where Istvan had the best possible care for the last days of his life.

Istvan's memorial was on Saturday and we had around 150 people there to pay their respects. We spent very little on the event since everyone provided all we needed free of charge. We are working out how to install a plaque on the bridge, but other than that the funds will go to Dorothy House, Julian House and the Big Issue who all supported Istvan.

It is amazing that we have now exceeded our target by so much - Thank you so much. This will enable us to have a good memorial service and a plaque on the bridge (subject to listed building consent!). We are compiling comments for a display at the Memorial Service and would like to use the comments on this page, to show how much Istvan meant for our community. We will use only first names for attribution. Might you please let me know if you'd rather your comment was not used, we will of course respect that. Thanks again.

Istvan is sorely missed on the bridge. His cheery greetings, decorated pitch and good wishes for the day touched all of us who knew him in Widcombe and beyond. Farewell friend.
