Story

Thank you for visiting our page! 🐈

When holidaying abroad, most people will be aware of the number of stray and feral cats, particularly in places like Greece, Spain and Italy; some of the local community will tolerate and feed the cats, while others, including holiday makers, see them as a nuisance.

Very often, these cats are not neutered, which cause the numbers to increase and sadly, local communities may resort to culling cat colonies.

* An average cat can have 1-8 kittens per litter and 2-3 litters per year. During her productive life, one female cat could have more than 100 kittens. A single pair of cats and their kittens can produce as many as 420,000 kittens in just 7 years!

* Kittens born as a result of inter-breeding can be born with serious birth defects.

* Un-neutered males can be territorially and reproductively aggressive and will fight with other males- this can often result in injuries that become infected abscesses.

* Fighting and mating can also spread feline diseases such as feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukaemia virus (FeLV)

Spaying and neutering cats can-

* Humanely control numbers of cats.

* Prevent uterine infections and breast cancer.

* Prevent testicular cancer and reduce aggression.

* Reduce the spread of infectious diseases.

With a combined 9 years of experience working at a cat adoption centre, we understand the importance of neutering and are very familiar with the plight of unwanted cats, particularly in places where animal welfare isn’t always a priority and where local rescues can be overwhelmed in keeping cat numbers under control.

We are very passionate about cats and wanted to help in areas of Corfu where there are stray un-neutered cats. We would like to raise money and assist the local rescues to trap, neuter and release as many cats as we can while we are there; and to leave behind some financial and equipment aid to the local rescues to continue their work.

We know that it may seem a small effort, but the long term in trapping and neutering of just a few of these cats, will prevent numbers in the area from increasing and also save cats from potential injuries, illness and death.

The money that is raised will be used to buy humane traps, carriers and most importantly, to pay the veterinary costs for neutering. All travel and accommodation will be funded by ourselves.

It's all about the cats!
