Story
Ivys Memory
As some of you may know and some of you may not know on the 2nd September 2017 our beautiful baby girl was born sleeping at 28 weeks. Weighing 1.9lbs we decided it was only right she had a little petite name, and the name perfect for her was Ivy, our little Ivy.
The day we found out there was no heartbeat will be the day I never forget. We were at the hospital for a routine check up and I felt fine, I was "glowing". This was a situation I thought i'd never be in nor did it ever cross my mind. I'm a healthy, young, hard working 27 year old, how could this possibly be? they got it wrong, demanding them to scan me again! Well it did and everyday I ask why me? why us? why my family? what did I do wrong?
On the 1st September I had to go into hospital and the unknown was petrifying, I have never felt fear like it; what was going to happen? will I be surrounded by other ladies giving birth to their healthy babies? As I arrived at the RUH I was greeted by a lovely midwife who put her arm around me and told be she was going to look after me as she lovingly guided me to the Forget-Me-Not Child Bereavement Suite. The room was beautiful and calming, someone had put a lot of love and thought into it. It also meant we got to spend quality time with Ivy after she was born in the comfort of our own room. Privileged is definitely the wrong word but I did feel privileged to be there, because I was the first person to use the suite. Prior to this women in my situation had to be on the labour ward hearing babies crying and listening to new mums and dads crying with tears of joy. So I guess the word I am looking for it lucky, so lucky I didn't have to go through that as well. The Forget-Me-Not Suite was made solely on donations and fundraising events and I will be forever grateful too those amazing people.
First Fundraising Event....
Although the suite was perfect, there is always room for improvement. And I think a good place to start would be the chairs, my mum and partner Tom spent 30 long hours sat on not the most comfortable chairs (which of course they didn't moan about once) but looking back they could definitely be improved.
I am renowned for my hair, it is my safety net, what makes me me and as Beyonce says I am 'Becky with the good hair" so I thought there is no better way to start fundraising for #ivysmemory than to chop it off!! The 30cm of hair cut off I am going to donate to The Little Princess Trust and the money raised will go towards those new chairs.
Thank you for reading
