Story
As part of my A-level Sixth Form studies I have been given the opportunity to go on a one month expedition to Peru. During this expedition I will be working on important projects to improve the standard of living for rural communities. The project work will revolve around the improvement of schools, villages and agricultural infrastructure. We will also be involved in the teaching of English and ICT with the local children.
Throughout the expedition I will be living in very diverse community camps, where I will be experiencing very hot days and bitterly cold nights!
There will also be time for adventure.... This will involve a visit to a floating island with island communities on Lake Titicaca, a trek along the Colca Canyon and then to embark on a challenging trek through mountain glaciers and cloud forests to the remarkable Machu Picchu.
Although this will be a lot of hard work, I am hoping the rewards for the community will be far greater.
My challenge has started by having to raise the expedition fee of £4,170. So far I have raised funds by doing an Easter Egg competition at my work place, the Black Bull at Moulton, who then kindly added their own contribution. I have carried out a several hundred leaflet, letter drop advertisement for the newly opened Tontine Hotel and ran a local Trials Bike trial.
My next forthcoming fundraiser is kindly being supported by the Level 3 Public Service students at Darlington College. The students, two tutors and I (and my Mum!) will be taking part in a sponsored walk covering the 'middle third' of Hadrian's Wall, which is approximately 34 miles over two days, on the 19th and 20th October 2016.
I would be very grateful if you were able to support/sponsor me with a contribution towards my goal. I really appreciate you taking the time to read my story.
Thank you,
Izzy
