Story

James and Tom Run the Bob Graham

2 Men, 42 Fells, 66 Miles, 26,900ft....all in 24 Hours

On 16 August 2024, James Brown and Tom Dunham - both serving members of HM Forces - will run the Bob Graham, a 66 Mile foot-race in the Lake District; a gruelling running challenge which must be completed in the allotted 24 hours.

Undertaking such a gargantuan challenge requires similarly massive levels of support from our friends and family, both on the day of the race and to push us out of the door for our increasingly long (and slightly dull!) training runs.

It is in this vein - of friendship and support - that we hope to raise £4500.00, which we will split between three charities that support initiatives championed by two of our friends and colleagues: Kev McCool - a member of the Parachute Regiment who was tragically murdered in Kenya in 2023; and, Kev Coleman, a Royal Marine currently undergoing treatment for aggressive Pancreatic Cancer.

Sported and the Lornah Kiplagat Foundation

Kev McCool's family have identified two charities that our efforts will support. The first charity in the Northern Ireland based Sported who's ethos is:

Using the power of sport to change young lives and tackle some of society's biggest problems, including anti-social behaviour, rural isolation and community cohesion.

We hope that supporting this charity will steer individuals away from a life of crime in the hope that Kev's story will not be repeated.

The second charity is Kenyan based Lornah Kiplagat Foundation who:

aim to keep girls and young women in Kenya in school and offer them education in combination with sport - A healthy mind in a healthy body.

We are proud to support a charity that enables more young women to see the benefits of education and sport in Kenya.

FORCE Cancer Charity

Kev Coleman is undergoing treatment for an aggressive form of Pancreatic Cancer. FORCE Cancer Charity are an Exeter Based charity that provide free support and information to anyone affected by cancer. They have provided amazing support to Kev and his family during this incredibly challenging time - it is for this reason that we hope to raise funds that will help FORCE continue their amazing work. Kev puts it best:

They are genuinely the best support network out there and a lot of people will benefit from supporting them.

No sum is too small and we are grateful for any donations.

Also, we appreciate your support in the form of time (and patience!) - if you ever fancy joining us for one of our training runs or wish to support in person on the day of the race, we would be equally thrilled - just email jandtrunthebg@gmail.com

By Sea, By Land - we are Second to None.
