In memory of beautiful Ruby Hodgson

Ruby faced more challenges in her 16 years than most people do in a lifetime. She was first diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 1 year old.

Each time, Ruby faced her illness with incredible strength, courage and determination. No matter what she was going through, she never stopped fighting.

Anyone who knew Ruby knew how much she loved Disney. She adored Orlando and Paris, and the happiness those trips brought her was clear for everyone to see.

Sadly, Ruby lost her battle when her brain tumour returned for the 7th time.

Although her time with us was far too short, she touched the lives of so many people and will never be forgotten.

I have set up this page to give something back to the two children’s cancer wards, Ward 4 and Ward 14 at the RVI Newcastle, who cared for Ruby throughout her life. The staff on these wards provided outstanding treatment, care, compassion and support, not only to Ruby but also to her family during the most difficult times.

This fundraiser is a gift from Ruby to say thank you and to help other children and families facing similar battles and going through similar journeys.

Depending on the total amount raised, we hope to set aside a small portion of the funds for Ruby’s mum and dad. This is so they can choose something special in memory of Ruby, whether that’s a place to remember her, a keepsake, or something else that brings them comfort. It’s a small way of saying thank you for the unconditional love, and in recognition of care and devotion they gave Ruby every single day throughout her life.
