    Story

The Falmouth estuary and its surrounding marine sites are rich in biodiversity. Foraging for Mussels and Oysters is not uncommon among locals the ever increasing tourist population that visit the area within summer months. Pseudo-nitzschia species within the estuarine waters of Falmouth are producers of Domoic acid, of which is bio-accumulated by these sessile filter feeders, and a main cause of food poisoning within humans. I would like to research the effect copper has on nitzschia species as the history of the Cornish coast includes heavy mining. And hope to evaluate sites of high risk and low risk in a foraging map.
