Story
Myself and 6 other Leeds Beckett students will be participating in an international volunteering programme in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The programme is on behalf of a charity called 'Soccer in the Streets' and we will be delivering Football sessions and life skills workshop's to individuals from deprived areas who do not particularly have access to sport, i.e. issues with transport, access to facilities and/or monetary restrictions.
Soccer in the Streets is a non-profit organisation that works to develop young leaders so they can lead rich lives and cultivate healthy communities through sports-based youth development. The core to its mission is providing better access to quality soccer programs and making youth ready for employment. The organisation reaches to children through Football, work-readiness training, hands-on experiential activities, and participation in youth leadership councils.
In preparation for our trip in June 2019, I will be completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge (24 Mile Hike) and a 5k fun run in order to raise money for the 'Soccer in the Streets' charity and provide sustainability for the programme.
