Story

Many of you might remember Jack’s Just Giving page about a year ago to help raise funds to help him practically through his treatment of Leukaemia. Despite Jack being a trooper with the treatment, side-effects and disruption to his and his family’s life. The leukaemia has returned, just before his 18th birthday.

Your help is needed again. He is back to attending Queens Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham regularly and he is going to need a stem cell transplant.

For those of you who don’t know Jacks journey with this cruel disease, here it is in a nutshell.

Jack is a kind, caring young man. He was doing great in Year 12 and looking forward to his summer holiday where he was going to Ghana to volunteer in a school. For his 17th birthday he ironically asked for donations to Cancer research and Teenage Cancer Trust.

He has fantastic friends and family, including his slightly crazy Mum, Katie who has a heart of pure, glittery gold.

But, just days after his 17th birthday and following his first driving lesson he was diagnosed with leukaemia.

He was treated at Queens Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and endured the horrible side-effects of chemotherapy. He made many sacrifices to battle the disease, not going out, seeing friends and generally putting life on hold. His mum had just moved into a new house with her partner Neil. They too, were looking forward to make their new house into a home with Jack and Neil’s children. To ensure that Jacks treatment was not hindered by any infections, Neil offered to move out, putting them all into a lock-down situation, well before we even knew what the phrase really entailed.

After many months Jack was thought to be in remission. Jack was making plans for a ‘lock down’ 18th birthday. Katie and Neil looking forward to Covid restrictions being lifted so at last Neil and his children could return and they could all start living life as a family again.

However a couple of days beforehand Jack was told the Leukaemia had returned. Its not fair is it?

A treat for Jack at the end of the treatment, something for him to look forward too. Not sure what this is, but I’m sure him and his mum will have great fun planning what he can get/do.
