Story

I have been chosen to represent the UK at the 24th World Scout Jamboree!

My name is Jack Law. I am 13 years old and I am a Scout at 1st Bushey Heath.

Following a selection weekend which involved various physical and mental activities to assess our problem-solving, teamwork and leadership skills, I was offered a place at the 24th World Scout Jamboree which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, West Virginia, USA from July 22 - August 2, 2019. Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve

The World Scout Jamboree is a 12-day ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity, an educational event that brings together the World’s Scouts (45,000 of us from 200 countries) to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills. WSJ 2019

I will be part of Unit 15 - the Psychedelic Squirrels - that consists of 36 other Scouts and Explorers from Hertfordshire.

HOWEVER, it is not just about the trip to America. There will be many challenges along the way and ultimately I would like to use the skills I acquire to pass on to others with aspirations to one-day lead my own Scouting section.

One of the largest parts of this particular journey is to raise the £1256.00 required! In the past, I have participated in fundraising for selected charities, my school, Scout group and the local Round Table however, I have never had the responsibility of fundraising myself and so it is by far the biggest challenge I have faced so far.

This page is just the beginning; I will be raising money by competing in sponsored activities and events, helping others by taking on extra jobs and chores and by making goods to sell at fetes and fairs.

I would appreciate any donation you are willing/able to make; ‘Every little helps’ and ANY contribution will be of huge support and encouragement to me, particularly as part of the money we raise supports Scouts from across the world to attend the Jamboree (where the cost would usually prevent them from joining this once in a lifetime experience).

Every 35p gets me 1 mile closer to West Virginia!

I hope you will be able to help me on my journey.
