The world's rainforests are being destroyed. One and a half acres of forest are cut down every single second for all kinds of reasons, including agriculture and cattle-raising, industrial logging, urbanisation and the construction of oil and gas pipelines. This deforestation has disastrous consequences: it contributes significantly to global warming due to the loss of photosynthetic organisms which remove CO2 from the atmosphere; it causes a loss of biodiversity, and has already put countless species under threat through loss of habitat. Of course, it is only the governments and the big companies with the real power to put the brakes on this rampant deforestation; however, I believe it is up to everybody to do what they can to protect, conserve and rebuild rainforests, thereby going some way towards counteracting the damage while sending a message to those in power that we care about our forests. For this reason, in March 2017 I will be spending a month volunteering with the Ceiba Foundation, a highly respected group which works in the Lalo Loor dry forest reserve in Ecuador to conserve wildlife and reforest the local area (website: http://www.ceiba.org/index.htm).
Any money I raise will go towards my flight to South America and my accommodation and food expenses while volunteering for Ceiba. Thank you for your time, and please give generously, as it will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you!
