    Jacob's Story ….

Earlier this year we invited people to join with our son Jacob, who was diagnosed with cancer (pelvic embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma) in March, to raise funds to help cover costs associated with his ongoing treatment.

Jacob was originally approved for NHS funded Proton Beam therapy in Jacksonville, Florida. However, despite him having completed four rounds of chemotherapy at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, his tumour grew unexpectedly - and so Proton Beam was cancelled. Instead, he undertook 28 sessions of radiotherapy treatment at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, from mid July, plus a further 5 cycles of chemotherapy through to the end of September.

During Jacob's radiotherapy, to make things easier for him and ourselves, we stayed at a hotel in Cheadle, just down the road from The Christie. This was funded primarily by personal donations made directly to us, which we used for accommodation costs and a meals allowance. We continued to fundraise whilst his treatment was ongoing and have seen over £15,000 donated to this crowdfunding page to date. In addition, we held an End of Summer Ball on Friday September 28th at Preston North End FC. It was a fabulous evening - and through ticket sales, an auction and a raffle we managed to raise another £13,000, which is held in a dedicated #jacobsjoin bank account.

Having now exceeded our target of £25,000 overall, we will shortly withdraw the funds from this page and deposit them (less fees) into our account. We plan to use these funds to help us during Jacob's future treatment (whatever that might be). He is now on a 6 month phase of "Maintenance" chemotherapy through to the end of March and a further scan in April will help determine the next steps. We will keep everyone posted / updated through our Jacob's Join Facebook Page. Once Jacob's treatment is complete, any residual funds will be donated to other worthy causes.

We cannot thank you all enough for joining with Jacob - our very special little boy. 💚

The final amount raised at the Summer Ball just crept over the £13,000 mark - absolutely amazing!! Rather than add these funds to this page, we now intend to keep them in the dedicated #jacobsjoin bank account that we created. Furthermore, we will shortly be withdrawing the funds from this page and depositing them (less fees) into the account. To have raised more than £25,000 overall (beating our target) is just phenomenal - and our thanks go to everyone that has supported us to date. We now await Jacob’s latest scan results on 6th November. 💚

Last Friday (28th Sep) we were delighted to welcome friends, family, special guests and sponsors to the Invincibles Lounge at Preston North End FC for our End of Summer Ball. The evening was an incredible success - made all the better by Jacob being there - with an astonishing amount of money raised from ticket sales, a silent auction and a raffle (approx. £12,500 all up). The monies are still being collected and will be added to the page accordingly. Thank you to everyone who supported the event in any way - you are all fab!! #jacobsjoin
