Story
Thank you for visiting our #jacobsjoin💚 crowdfunding page for 2019 - set up in response to requests from people who wished to fundraise for Jacob this year.
Jacob’s Story ...
Jacob was originally diagnosed with cancer (pelvic embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma) back in March last year and undertook 9 courses of chemotherapy at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and 28 sessions of radiotherapy treatment at The Christie Hospital. Whilst this halted the growth of his tumour it unfortunately didn't shrink.
In October ‘18 Jacob began six months of maintenance chemotherapy - but in January of this year an MRI scan confirmed that his tumour was growing again. He then started a new chemotherapy regime - but after two cycles (11 in total) it clearly wasn’t working - and so he started a clinical trial at RMCH on 5th March. The trial consisted of up to 12 x 3 week cycles of chemo (week one) and the trial drug (weeks two and three). After an initial reduction of Jacob's tumour, a scan completed post cycle 10 confirmed it had re-grown, requiring us to leave the trial in mid-October.
Some 3-4 weeks later we were able to start a new trial - but by then Jacob’s condition had significantly deteriorated. He sadly passed away in the early hours of 25th November, aged just 3 years and 1 month.
We miss him tremendously.
Thank you for the incredible support received to date - please know that we are eternally grateful to you all. We intend to use these funds to help cover the costs of Jacob’s funeral and celebration, held on 5th December. As such, the page will be closed on 31st December.
Please follow our Jacob's Join Facebook Page for updates thereafter.

5 years agoJacob’s latest scan (after cycle 10 of the trial) has sadly revealed further growth. It’s still within the acceptable limits though, so the trial continues. However, we are now investigating other options, such as a second trial at RMCH that Jacob has already been pre-screened for - and trials based elsewhere in the UK (or even overseas). 💚 x

5 years agoUnfortunately, Jacob's latest MRI scan revealed some slight growth during cycles 7 & 8 of the trial. Overall he's still made good progress though - and we remain incredibly proud of how well he's done. We are also extremely greatful for the continued generosity of our supporters - as we approach £5,000 raised online this year! Wow! Thank you all.
