I've raised £1900 to buy Jacob a specially adapted trike. Jacob has a life limiting condition that causes disability, so he's unable to ride a bike.

Story

Jacob has a condition called Mucopolysaccharidosis Type 1, Hurler Syndrome. This is a rare, life limiting metabolic condition that causes both physical and learning disabilities. He underwent a bone marrow transplant at 18 months old to halt the diseases progression however he still suffers a variety of symptoms on a daily basis. He has problems with his lungs and his stomach and he’s predominantly fed through a tube. His entire skeleton also grows abnormally meaning he has reduced mobility, chronic pain and wears a back brace. He also suffers emotional and psychological behavioural problems such as severe anxiety and he is currently undergoing tests for Autism.

His 3 year old brother recently got his first bike and Jacob has been trying to get on it and have a go ever since! He keeps asking us for a bike of his own so I found Tomcat trikes online and arranged a trial of one of their specially adapted special needs trike. Jacob absolutely loved the trial ride of the trike and he was actually managing to peddle the bike himself, which is a huge milestone for him! This trike will enable him to feel the same as his brother and we’ll be able to take them for bike rides together without Jacob having to be in his wheelchair. The peddling action will also strengthen his legs, which as he suffers from hyper-mobility will be really beneficial. It could potentially allow us to delay a surgery that is currently needed on his legs if they were to get a bit stronger.

Please Pay it Forward.
