Story
For my upcoming 21st birthday (22 May), I'd like to fundraise for EuroRelief, a NGO working in Moria Refugee Camp in Lesvos, Greece. I've worked with EuroRelief twice before and would love to go back again soon, but since that doesn't look very likely in the near future, I'd really like to respond in a way I can at the moment.
Last week, I read that a group of about 20 single men offered to vacate their room, one of the prime spots in camp, so that nine vulnerable families who had been living in tents could have a better place to stay. Stories like this are so beautiful and I'm filled with humility to see such act of compassion and selflessness by people who are going through such hardships themselves.
But what this reminds me is that there are many more people including very young children and even new-born babies, who are still living in tents - it's become the norm in Moria and, I'm sure, in many other refugee camps across Europe. EuroRelief works so hard make life just a bit better and hopeful as refugees wait for months, sometimes years, for their asylum decisions.
100% of your donations will go to EuroRelief, which provides basic necessities and services for refugees who continue to arrive on the shores of Greece. It's sad to see that media attention has nearly completely died down but so many people are still forced to leave behind everything - jobs, friends, and often families - yet to face unbearable and uncertain conditions once they arrive in Europe.
Also, if you've been thinking about volunteering, please send me a message - I'd love to talk about my experience, and they always need more hands and feet! I've met some of the most selfless and loving - refugees and volunteers - during my time in Moria and I'm sure you will too! All you need is the heart to be a listening ear and to build relationships so that they remember that they are so valued and loved.

6 years agoThank you SO much for giving to this cause! I'm honestly blown away by your generosity. We've collectively raised £300 so far! <3 I'll leave the page live for just a few more days (~end of the month) before I transfer the money to EuroRelief. It's been so humbling and encouraging to see this gain attention and start many conversations - thank you for taking your time to read, think and pray for this :) Lots of love! *picture of Mytilene, Lesvos
