Story

Imire rhino and wildlife conservation

In the 1980’s during a period of Zimbabwe’s worst poaching, rhino numbers crashed from 10,000 to less than 1,000 in just a few years. In 1987, 250 black rhino were removed from the Zambezi Valley due to a distressing rise in illegal rhino poaching. These rhino were relocated to private conservancies for safety, called Intensive Protection Zones. Imire was granted custodianship of seven orphaned calves and became an intensive black rhino breeding station. To date Imire has successfully released 11 rhino into the wild.

Ivory and rhino horn poaching is rife throughout Africa and to protect these endangered animals they need the safety and security that can only be provided by well run conservancies.

The costs and logistics behind maintaining a well-run conservancy are high and ever-increasing and rely heavily on the support and donations from communities, businesses and generous private individuals around the world to help fund the security and well-being of our wildlife and local community.

At the end of 2018 I will be visiting Zimbabwe and volunteering at Imire. Please help me to raise as much money as possible to help Imire carry on with their vital work.
