    Story

    Alzheimers.

At the age of 7 years old was the first time i ever remember hearing the word Alzheimers. My Nan was diagnosed with it from when i was a young age but i only remember being fully made aware of what was wrong, at the age of 7. I didn't know what the word meant, i only knew that her memory was affected and she wouldn't always know who i was. However, as i got older and the disease worsened, i began to realize that is was no longer just her memory that was affected, but her ability to be reasonable. Things that she once had a passion for she no longer was interested in doing. Habits that she never would have dreamed of doing, she was doing without hesitation. So, no longer was it just her memory being affected, it was her as a person. Its in her memory that i want to hurl myself out of a plane. Unfortunately, this is not where the story ends, as my Granddad now also has 2 forms of dementia. Something must be done to delay/prevent this awful disease.

850,000 people are estimated to be living with dementia here in the UK and as life expectancy is getting higher, so is the amount of people getting diagnosed with dementia. Its a devastating disease that doesn't just affect the person diagnosed, but the family and friends around them as 24.6 million people in the UK know someone who is diagnosed and living with a form of dementia. Alzheimers was the leading cause of death for women in 2016 and the second leading cause for men. This is expected to quadruple by 2040. By raising money for Alzheimers research can open up so much opportunity. Currently 0.02% of compounds get regulatory authority approval but the alzheimers clinical trials have doubled in the past 3 years which is allowing more opportunity for better treatment and medicine to stop this distressing disease.

So, please share and donate to this amazing cause and not make dementia seem like its the end of the line.
