Story

Words cannot even begin to describe how difficult the last few weeks have been. Not just for me, but for all the amazing people that have been supporting the family over this time. In a world that can sometimes seem bleak, it’s the people around you that can really make life the special place that it truly is.

My beautiful, witty, mischievous, intelligent, and caring wife brought so much good and happiness to the people around her. She deeply cared about people, always fought for the underdog, and understood the challenges faced by people day-to-day. It only seems right that I continue this on in her name.

Something good MUST come of this.

Next year I will be formally registering a charity in Jades name. Called The Jade Pocock Foundation. The aim of the charity will be to support local grassroots projects both at home and abroad. We will target our funds at projects which focus on 3 key purposes:

1. The prevention or relief of poverty

2. The advancement of education

3. Community Development

100% of the money donated will go to helping these projects on the ground.

This time about 10 weeks ago Jade and I were on holiday in South Africa doing the garden route.

One night she couldn’t sleep in Plettenburg Bay, in her words

“it isn’t fair that we are drinking cocktails and eating all this wonderful food when people are suffering in townships just down the road”

I have therefore decided to work in partnership with Born in Africa with this first round of fund raising.

Below is what they do.

Born in Africa is a non-profit organisation, active in socio-economically disadvantaged areas around Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.

These disadvantages areas are called townships in South Africa and find their origin in the Apartheid regime which was enforced from 1948 until the early 90's. Up until today, people of all colours live in these areas due to the high unemployment rate in the country and the unstable economy. Other socio-economic issues such us a low level education in public schools, high costs involved with tertiary studies, low minimum wage, alcohol and drug abuse, teen pregnancies and much more contribute to why Born in Africa does the valuable work it does.

Education is one of the fundamental rights of all children. Therefore, we are committed to the long-term educational development of underprivileged children in South Africa. A solid education provides solutions for these children, equipping them to get out of hopeless situations- often dominated by poverty, abuse, and unemployment. Only when these children are given the opportunity to obtain a decent education, will they have any hope of entering the labour market.

The aim is to raise £20,000 which will be enough money to provide a new classroom build in Jades name in Plettenburg Bay for Disadvantaged children.

Any donation no matter how small is greatly appreciated.

100% of the money donated will go to helping grassroots project that we believe Jade would have wanted to support. I will update everyone on where the money has impacted.

Moving forward we will be registering the charity to continue doing good in the name of Jade.

Thank you all for your support.
