Story
Hello, I’m James, an academic scholar at Winchester College. This summer I’m raising £1000 to support local and global education and science charities because I believe that youth empowerment is one of the most effective ways to tackle climate change and biodiversity emergencies worldwide.
I am deeply concerned by both the horrific pace with which this global disaster is unfolding and the seeming indifference with which this is being treated. Every day that this problem is neglected it grows greater, but it is essential that we act before it is too late. Therefore, I will be riding 100km through the Chilterns National Landscape with a friend to support charities who are trying to protect nature and communities from the appalling effects of climate change, pollution and ecosystem collapse.
This cycling challenge is part of a bigger campaign: the GYC 1,000km challenge - a global movement where young people commit to walking, running, cycling or paddling 1,000 km collectively, raising funds and awareness for climate action
All funds raised will go directly to the Global Youth Council on Science, Law and Sustainability and the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, who are working to empower youth, promote education about sustainability solutions and mobilise science to protect nature.
