Story

So, as most of you are aware our 9 yr old son Nico has severe scoliosis which is a curvature of the spine & at its worst Nico‘s spine was curved 70 degrees. Since he was a baby he‘s needed alot of hospital treatment including 4 major spinal surgeries - his most recent was a spinal fusion in june 2019 all carried out at Bristol childrens hospital.

During Nico’s last admission we spent 4 days on the high dependancy unit (HDU Daisy ward) the staff & the ward are absolutely amazing but for anyone who has had to stay on the ward you will understand how hard it is to stay in a room with the constant beeping of the machines & not even a window to look out of for a distraction, so for those children including Nico who have limited or no mobility while on the ward watching a TV/ipad in their own room would be a welcome distraction. The problem was that Daisy ward didn’t have enough (if any) TVs for each child to use.

So, Nico has decided he’d like to raise as much money as he possibly can to donate for the ward to buy TVs/ipads for the children to use in each of their rooms. As a parent of a child with a disability that has seen him in & out of hospital for most of his life, i know this will make a huge difference to the patients & parents on the ward.

We have decided to raise the money by doing a 24hr sponsored bike ride 9th november, the majority of which will be done by his dad, family & friends - also Nico will join in as he’s now recovered enough to be able to ride a bike.
