Story

We are raising money for baby Jamie Bentley as he now adapts and lives his life with his condition of “Ultra short bowel” a recent and unexpected life changing event.

Stacey and deans lives have stopped still while Jamie faces staying at the Evelina children’s hospital for the next 6 - 12 months.

Understandably they both have stopped working in order to focus on Jamies adaptation to his new way of life.

All money raised, will go directly to Jamie, Stacey & Dean and will be used to buy equipment Jamie will need for when he is ready to finally come home and help support them in this time of need.

Jamie is already the definition of a true warrior, he has come back from the brink of death more than once, which has earned him the nickname ‘our little lion’.

For those of you unaware of the challenges Jamie has faced already in his first few months of life they are truly harrowing.

on the 8th of January Jamie became unwell and was taken to QE hospital in woolwich.

After a few hours of checks he was sent home only for his condition to worsen and had to return to the hospital.

Following an X-ray Jamie was blue lighted to St. Thomas’s hospital in the early hours.

The next morning Jamie was rushed into emergency surgery on his belly.

Before the surgery Stacey and dean was advised that Jamie was in a very grave condition and that they may want to take the chance to say goodbye just incase.

Around three hours later the surgeons spoke to stacey and dean and told them he was stable for now, but still very unwell.

They had to remove around 40% of his small intestine as it had twisted and cut the blood supply off to itself.

they wasn’t sure if another 40% of the intestine would survive, but it was left it in to see if it could recover.

That evening Jamie had to be operated on again immediately, as the remaining ‘dead’ intestine was causing toxins in his body, and had to be removed otherwise his condition would only deteriorate rapidly.

Stacey and Dean were even given the option ‘to let nature take its course’ and let Jamie pass away, due to the severity of the condition he would be facing in his future.

This of course wasn’t an option for them, and they asked the surgeons to do everything they could to save his life!

The surgeons returned in the early hours to tell them that the operation was successful and that Jamie was once again stable.

For the following few days, Jamie was heavily sedated and on breathing support paediatric intensive care.

Jamie had 2 more surgeries over the next week, meaning he’d had 4 surgeries in under 10 days.

This resulted in Jamie being left with only 15% of he’s original digestive system.

Jamie faces at least 1 more surgery and several procedures to try and stretch his remaining intestine to improve his chances of eating in the future.

he will one day be fed via the line for 12 hours a day, and then he has the other 12 hours to live his life, run and play and be free like most other children.

His condition is known as ‘Ultra short bowel’ and has only been treatable for around 15 years,

Stacey and Dean are truly humbled by all of the well wishing, support and love they have been shown so far, without it they would not have Coped as well as they have.

So thank you to everyone that has supported them in the way you have. X
