Story

As many of you may know, We, One Nine Four Six Marshals Association, are an independent marshals association who support many different charities in the best way we can.
We have recently discussed with Jamie Hodson’s family about raising money in memory of Jamie. Jamie’s brother Rob and Father Jim have requested the money raised is donated to The Injured Riders Welfare Fund in Ireland. We have spoken at length with Yvonne Ward from the fund and she is incredibly grateful that the Hodson family and our Marshals association have chosen to support the fund. Jim and Rob had a few words to share about why they have chosen this charity and why it is a cause they hold so close to their hearts.
“Jamie Hodson was one in a million, he was a beloved son and brother. He had an infectious smile and laugh that was contagious and was a friend to many in the racing paddock and there are many who spent good times and have great memories with. His passing has left huge hole in many lives and he is deeply missed.
We were all so proud of Jamie and all his achievements and the day he went on to win the Supertwin Manx Grand Prix in 2016 was so special after he had worked so hard for it. He loved racing and his motorbikes, and it gave him so much enjoyment.
Tragically, Jamie lost his life following an incident at the Ulster Grand Prix in 2017.
Following Jamie’s death, the Injured Riders Welfare Fund provided assistance to our family by means of financial help which helped toward funeral costs and expenses, meeting us at the airport, avoiding unnecessary cost or hardship and provided emotional support during the early days and weeks of our bereavement. All of which are small things but make a big difference.
The Injured Riders Welfare Fund supports all riders on the island of Ireland, all their riders if they are hurt racing elsewhere and any visiting riders who are hurt in Ireland.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent race meeting cancellations, their fundraising efforts have been hampered, so we thought we would do something to help them and return the help and support they have given the Hodson family.”
