£2,543raised of £6,000 target by 48 supporters

Weʼve raised £2,543 to help Liz Symes buy a mobility vehicle to allow her independent access to the great outdoors again following her spinal cord injury

    Brighton, UK
Funded on Thursday, 13th September 2018

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

In November 2017 Liz had an extraordinarily unlucky accident whilst swimming in a calm sea in Barcelona. She was caught by a current, dragged underwater and she cracked her head on the hard sand. She sustained a neck trauma that damaged her spinal cord resulting in paralysis of her limbs. She has spent the following months in hospital desperately working at regaining some movement and strength.

She is passionate about the outdoors, loves photography, exploring and dog walking. Since the accident, it has been very difficult for Liz to access the outdoors so we are trying to raise money to buy her an all-terrain mobility trike so she can regain her independence.

Thank you for reading this. Your generosity will make a huge difference to Liz's life.

I am delighted to say that, this morning, I was able to transfer £2373.67 to Liz for her Ice Trike. Having been privileged to be in Brighton to see Liz using her amazing trike a few weeks ago, I am in no doubt what a difference to life this will make. Watching Leo the dog chasing her down the grassy hill was emotional and magical. I know that Liz has been overwhelmed by the kindness of the 48 supporters. I join Liz in thanking everyone who donated so generously. This page is now closed, but please check out Nina's K9 Challenge on JustGiving

On Bank Holiday Monday I was so lucky to be with Liz, her brother Tim, friend Bill and wonderful dog Leo, when she made her epic first trip on the Ice Trike. The footage speaks for itself (although my filming is pretty bad!) Liz tackled the whole experience with courage, as always, and it was fantastic. Massive thank you to everyone who has donated to this JustGiving page. You can see what you have done and how much it means to Liz.
