Story

• What inspired you to work in the care sector?

To be honest, I did not have many industries to choose from. However, I appreciate the circumstances of my life that led me to encounter and learn about this industry. People often shy away from discussing topics such as dementia, strokes, disability, and the like, as it is assumed that there is no quality of life after experiencing such conditions.

But now I understand that life continues, with its own mix of sorrows and joys, victories and disappointments, ups and downs. This realization has emphasized the importance of enriching the lives of our residents with vibrant events, new experiences, and emotions. This is how we intend to utilize the donations we receive.

• What do you enjoy most about your job?

For sure, it is the ambience within our Home. It was my first job in the UK, so experiencing a new company culture felt like immersing myself in the entire UK’s culture without any embellishments. And, to my delight, I was not disappointed. The level of encouragement is unparalleled, not just towards me, but also towards our residents and each other.

• Can you tell me about your climbing / mountaineering experience

In 2010, I met a group of remarkable people who seemed almost mythical to me: they were both strong and kind—a rare combination. They shared a passion for mountaineering, hiking, and rock climbing. Naturally, I was drawn to the same pursuits. Who wouldn’t be strong and kind?!

Over the years, I’ve spent time in both big and small mountains, engaged in regular physical and technical training, and experienced both successful climbs and challenging falls.

• What inspired you to climb Mont Blanc?

Working at the care home made me realize that life is not infinite. I looked at my bucket list and told myself I need to pursue what I truly love while I can.

• What fundraising activities are you doing?

This is my first fundraising event, and I’m still learning about the culture of charitable fundraising here in Scotland. I’m excited about the idea and eager to learn how to do it effectively. At the end of my trip, we will organize a raffle at our care home with prizes related to Mont Blanc. We’ll also hold an exhibition of all the equipment needed for climbing Mont Blanc, giving people the opportunity to try it on for themselves.

• What are you looking forward to about the Mont Blanc climb?

Such an event is a great way to sharpen our perception of life. Putting yourself in conditions when it’s cold, you really enjoy the warmth; when you go, climb for hours without stopping, even 10 minutes of respite is pleasure; when you haven’t seen a shower in a while, that hot water stream is a blessing. This teaches you to be happy and appreciative with very few things.
