John Chilton School is a specialist school for children with a range of physical and cognitive disabilities. Our pupils face daily obstacles and challenges that they have to overcome to get by in life. During play times and break times the young people enjoy time to relax with their friends and peers. At this present time they find this difficult as there isn't a big enough space or designated area on the playground for them to do so. A group of year 7 and 8 pupils have proposed an idea of cycling 50 miles , on exercise bikes, during one school day to raise money for their comfy playground idea. This is a huge task as majority of pupils find it difficult to walk or maneuver their wheelchairs for long periods of time.
Building a space where pupils can relax together will help to improve relationships between the pupils, allow pupils to have ownership of something of their own and help to improve moods and attitudes towards learning.
This cause is very important to me as I am the proud form tutor of this wonderful bunch of young people and I would love to help them achieve their goal.
