Story

Will there be a Harvest in Thungururu?

Rain only fell for two weeks in April, the crops failed and everyone now goes hungry, relying on food aid and hoping the next season will be better.

But, battling the changing climate and lack of rainfall, the ‘Farming God’s Way’ project is enabling farmers in Thungururu, in our Companion Diocese of Thika, Kenya, to feed their families.

A sack garden can make use of all your waste kitchen water and grow vegetables all year round. Conservation farming techniques and water harvesting, to catch the little rain that falls and keep it in the soil, can beat the drought.

Can we raise £13,000 to continue to employ the Project Officer and keep this project running for another 18 months? Then 200 Champion farmers will be equipped with skills to pass on to their neighbours and break the dependency on food aid.

For more information contact thika.link@exeter.anglican.org or see the Companion Links page on the Exeter Diocesan website. All donations will go to Thika Diocese via EDBF Ltd (Exeter Diocesan Board of Finance) and will be designated for Thungururu, Thika.
