    Story

2016 started out as any other year, happy and in love with my family, friends, boyfriend and having a full life. In April I collapsed and woke in the back of an ambulance. I had no idea what had happened to me. I was told I'd had a seizure and spent the next few days in hospital having test after test after test to try and determine the cause. That cause turned out to be the life changing diagnosis of a 4cm brain tumour. To say I was devastated is an understatement. I assumed I'd been given a sentence and that my life was effectively over, not knowing, or wanting to know, what the outcome would be. I pretended it wasn’t happening and tried to just put it out of my mind but as time went on, I was given the choice to leave it to chance or have it removed. The latter option is the most petrifying decision any one person should have to make. I took that option, knowing the side effects I could be left with included losing use of one or multiple limbs, being wheelchair bound or with the inability to speak normally again after surgery. In August 2016, I underwent a gruelling 8 hour surgery, originally planned as a 4 hour operation. During that time, I had to be awake for half of it. No one should have to hear people working on their brain, but many people do. It is an operation that has saved so many lives and shown people a bravery they didn’t know they had. 8 Weeks later, I am recovering well, walking normally and returning to normal speech. I am making a fully recover and for that I am eternally grateful. This is the reason I have set this page up. I want to give back to the department that gave me my life back. Not only that, given me a new sense that nothing is impossible, no matter how challenging it may seem. I hope this money will help fund more vital research to enable others to have the amazing outcome I have had. I can now get back to the life I lead before and put this behind me. Please donate what you can. Thank you.
