I want to help those with little or no access to healthcare.
My previous experience with Mercyships was not enough and I wish to return to be inspired and motivated by the amazing drive and determination the patients display.
I feel privileged to have worked alongside such God fuelled nurses, whom were so considerate, compassionate and caring. When I initially stepped onto the ward I recived overwheming greetings from staff all over the world, kids playing by my feet, smily local caregivers followed by prayer and music.
What makes Mercyships so unique is the merciful nursing care , care is not based around tasks like the western world- the focus here is the patients and family well being. Ward routine is primarily based around play and crafts, comforting crying babies, singing and dancing and chaplaincy visits: the nursing tasks of course important but seem to fit around our bonding time. This so so important because patients can be physically disfigured meaning non acceptance and isolation from their community. Sometimes surgery cannot totally heal the physical but the patient can be healed holistically, where they can walk back into their community knowing they are loved.
