Our Story

Nearly nine years ago, Ryan’s life was taken after being fatally stabbed through his heart whilst out enjoying a night with his friends, leaving his family with unimaginable grief that has never gone away.

The person who admitted to stabbing Ryan stood trial in Feb 2018 and was acquitted of both Murder and Manslaughter and walked free from court without any punishment.

Ryan's family have always maintained that Ryan was murdered and his killer provided a bogus account of events at the trial to procure his acquittal and so the fight for justice and the truth began. (www.justiceforryan.org)

Ryan’s family has spent years working respectfully within the justice system. They have engaged with investigations, reviews, and meetings at every level. Recently, new evidence uncovered during a police reinvestigation has been formally accepted as real and reliable. Yet despite this, a decision has been made not to allow the case to be referred back to the Court of Appeal.

As a result, the family now faces their only remaining option: a costly judicial review to challenge whether that decision was made lawfully.

Why This Matters

This is not about revenge.

This is about fairness, accountability, and transparency.

The family believes that important new evidence should be properly tested. They are not asking for guarantees of outcomes—only for the opportunity for the new evidence to be examined through the proper legal process.

After years of emotional strain, the family is now being asked to carry an extraordinary financial burden simply to have the lawfulness of a decision examined.

What has made our grief and pain even harder is the ongoing struggle to understand how and why this happened—and the feeling that the full truth has never been properly examined.

This journey has required our family to relive our loss time and time again through reports, reviews, and legal processes. Despite this, we have remained respectful, patient, and determined that truth and accountability is achieved for Ryan.
