    Story

On the 17th November 2020 our lives changed forever.
My fit and healthy 39yr old husband Jay had been at home for a few days suffering from what seemed to be flu. By Tuesday evening, he worsened and had a rash so we called 999.
By 10am the following morning Jay was in an induced coma, on life support with multiple organ failure. Sepsis. He was in Septic shock and even with the maximum amount of drugs, his blood pressure just wasn't rising.
This led to him sustaining considerable damage to his limbs.
After multiple tests, we were told that Jay was suffering with pneumonia alongside 2 infected heart valves. His body couldn't cope with the level of infection he had, which is why his organs had started to fail. The outlook for my amazing husband wasn't good. By far the worst days of my life.
The staff at Treliske Hopsital in Cornwall did their very best for Jay and stabilised him until they were able to transfer him to The Royal Brompton in London for life saving heart surgery.
He wasn't well enough to have the operation, the cardiac surgeons took a big risk and for that I'm eternally grateful.
Jay was in a coma throughout all this and luckily, fought his way back to us through the dark.
He returned to Treliske Hospital after a month in London.
Being in ICU for so long caused dramatic muscle and weight loss, which makes recovery slow. But he's been well looked after by our amazing NHS staff along the way.
Jay has now been transferred again, this time to Salisbury Hospital, specialist plastic surgery unit. This is to have his lower legs amputated and surgery on his arms to hopefully recover some hand function.
Soon he will begin his long and hard journey of rehabilitation.
Jay will understandably require some help in the future and some adaptions to our home to help him be independent.
A wet room, stairlift, wheelchair and prosthetics, amongst other things.
We as a family would be so grateful for any help along the way.
Thank you so much for your support xx

Thank you again to everyone thats supported Jay and myself throughout this difficult time. We couldn't have come through it without your kindness and help. Unfortunately we've been told this week that Cornwall Council will not help us fund the adaptions that we need to make to our home, due to the fact that I have a job.... as a dental nurse within the NHS. But because of this, we aren't even entitled to a penny. It seems this happens to lots of people which is just awful. Jay's due home soon.... but to a house that isn't safe or suitable. 😥

Just wanted to post again to say another massive thank you! ♥️ The generosity shown is unbelievable and means so much to us both. I've been allowed to visit Jay today in hospital and he's totally and utterly overwhelmed by the kindness from everyone! He's doing well and is trying his hardest to stay positive and upbeat. He misses family & friends a lot, especially Jack, but knowing how much support he has really helps him through. Thank you so so much.... from us both xx💗

How horrendous for you all. A small amount towards what you need. All the best.

I'm Lisa...the wife of a warrior ❤. Trying hard to provide Jay with the help he needs to regain his independence when he can finally come home. Unfortunately disability aids and adaptions aren't all provided for free. Any help at all is so appreciated by Jay, myself & Jack xx
