Story
Currently there is no dedicated library space in our school. It is a small village school with a multi purpose hall which is used for book storage, a teaching space, PE lessons, assemblies and dining. This is not a conducive environment for children to relax in for reading, it also creates problems during PE as there are wooden shelves along every wall, the books often get coated in food during lunchtimes. Therefore we are planning to create our very own library as an extension to the school. We are aiming to build a first floor above the toilet area to house a comfortable and quiet space for children to immerse themselves in stories and reignite a love of reading. This also gives us the opportunity to update the existing toilet area and extend the building slightly so we can modernise and make the school more spacious and safer.
Sam Tattam is the current Senior Teacher at Blakeney Primary School and teaches the KS2 class. He is very passionate about reading and improving the small school to be the best it possibly can be. Emma Fraser is training to be a teacher at the UEA and is a volunteer at the school. They are both going to be walking the Jurassic Coast Challenge on the 21st and 22nd of July, which is 100km from Poole to Bridport. This is a small section of fundraising amongst many other things that the PTFA and the community of Blakeney are doing to get this project underway.
