Story

Our 10 month old son, Jack, was born with severe Plageocephaly, also known as flat head syndrome, as he had torticollis which tightened the muscles on one side of his neck, he couldn't turn his head in both directions, which lead to severe flattening on one side.

At 7 months, we struggled but managed to find funds for Jack to have a helmet from Technology in Motion. Treatment started well, and progress was made, but Jack had a couple or growth spurts which meant the helmet got too tight and uncomfortable quicker than what we would have liked.

As of his last appointment, Jack has made no more progress, so it is very likely that his current helmet is no longer fit for purpose, and the we will have to find a second. Our consultant Martin Bell had advised Jack will very likely finish his treatment on the graph where most children start.

The NHS does not fund helmet treatment for Plageocephaly at this moment in time. It is not just a cosmetic issue, it can cause problems further down the line with the jaws and ears and make wearing glasses very difficult.

Any help would be much appreciated and would mean the world to us. Thank you.
