Story

I hope to raise funds to help the brave people who go out rescuing the discarded galgos and podencos in Spain also to raise awareness of the amazing work they do
I adopted my first English greyhound in 1998 no-one wanted Marlowe but he became the most loving faithful dog you could wish for He was closely followed by Chester and Ned
I was asked to give a talk on greyhounds at Skipton College and had to do some research on greyhounds I found that thousands of them were killed every year as they could no longer earn money for their owners/trainers The lucky ones ended up in animal shelters
However the fate of Spanish galgos and podencos (greyhounds)is even worse Thousands are shipped into Spain each year to take part in the coursing season - at the end of which the majority are hung!! Those who performed well are hung high the others hung low so that their feet touch the ground. A long horrific death! The "lucky" ones are thrown out, left on the streets or in deserted areas. Many pregnant females have their puppies in drains and other dirty areas. I did write to the queen of Spain asking if this could be stopped - I did not get a reply!
There are many caring people in Spain and other areas of Europe who have set up shelters for these beautiful dogs where they have a warm home and a good meal which they have not had for a long time! They are also re-homed to people all over the world!
However there are some "unsung heroes" who maybe are not heard about! These are the brave people who go out rescuing the dogs which are roaming the streets or are in virtually inaccessible areas, sometimes in dangerous situations when trying to rescue them in areas where the galgueros (Spanish hunters) live. The dogs are often terrified having been treated cruelly, never having seen a friendly face These people ask for nothing and I really want to help them to carry on their invaluable work Please help me to do this by donating a little
THANK YOU
