I've raised £1000 to get Jeanie to Africa as a volunteer nurse

I qualified as a nurse in 2009 and since then on a daily basis I have been experiencing new practices, medicines & challenges within the NHS. There comes a time when you feel that you need to share this privileged knowledge with those who need it most and those who cant afford it.
By taking time away from the comfort of my Cornish hospital, I want to challenge myself in an environment that I am far from used to. Healthcare in Ghana is slowly improving, however they are still poorly resourced and understaffed. The presence of volunteer nurses help with the burden on stretched resources and help to give a more personal caring service to patients, 100s of whom are admitted everyday for illness caused by poor drinking water and sanitation as well as disease such as Typhoid, Polio, TB and malaria.
I have made the decision to use a few weeks of my annual leave from the NHS to travel to Africa to be a volunteer nurse in a rural hospital. As well as this being a volunteering position, it also has to be funded entirely by myself...so this is where your help and support can make a huge difference.
Costs include: Flight to Ghana £500, Registration to the mediacal volunteering association £125, Accomodation £200, Food & water £100, Medical supplies (including endless supply of imodium!!) £50, Travel expenses £100
Thank you for your kindness,
Jeanie x
