In June I am swimming an open water mile to help the Northumberland Breast Care Nurses help those who will need a new bra post breast cancer surgery and treatment. Times are tough enough already without the unexpected costs and anything, no matter what amount can help and take a little of the worry from the stress of a new diagnosis.

It costs £20 for a full cup, front fastening, adjustable straps, the works, any contribution towards this cost will help bring some comfort and ease worry to someone going through their own treatment plan. Northumbria NHS does not provide post surgical bras.

I was lucky to be able to afford my bra but in my life this has not always been the case so I know how much of a difference this could make.

And now the background.. Just over 6 months ago l was signing up for the Great North Swim, a mile in Windemere the following June (14th, 12pm) and little did I know what would happen between then and now!

The challenge.... I am on the other side of my own breast cancer surgery and radiotherapy now, still recovering and building strength back up mentally and physically, discovering what i can and cant do. I have started training for the mile, I can't do front crawl as the boob isn't quite ready for that stretch move yet especailly in a wetsuit so really I just want to complete the mile not time the mile.

The events....I have two opportunities to complete an open water mile - the 7th of June at the Northumberland Festival of sport and then the 14th of June at the Great North Swim.
