I've raised £2000 to Improve sport and education throughout the Fijian islands

In September 2018 i am travelling to Fiji with Think Pacific to volunteer for two months on the Fijian island of Kadaavu. In Fiji over 75% of families live below the poverty line and only 50% of the rural population have access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation. Schools are in a poor condition and less than 5% of children in rural areas have access to education. I want to change this. Think Pacific are a charity who work in partnership with the Fijian government, and are focused on empowering these disadvantaged youths to overcome poverty issues and achieve holistic good health through out the Fijian islands. They achieve this through improving education, sports development, infrastructure assistance and health promotion. I will be living with a host family on a remote island embracing the culture and island life with no electricity or running water. My time on the island will be spent in schools and kindergartens, helping the children develop their maths and English skills through one to one tuition as well as coaching a variety of sports and organising and leading extracuricular events. For my volunteering trip i am required to raise £2000 this will cover everyting for my two months away, excluding flights and insurance etc. 30% of this money also goes directly to the charity for things like school, kindergarten and sports resources for the schools involved. Teacher training and the cost of running sports events and camps for the children are also helped along by our contribution. For me this is an amazing opportunity and something i've always wanted to do, the chance to make a difference and help those who are not as lucky to live the lives we do here in the UK. I love working with kids and am very passionate about sport, this experience is something I'm going to throw myself into at whole heartedly and i really cant wait. I'm going to be carrying out a number of fundraising events over the next year as well as saving, but any donations and support no matter how small would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks Jemma.
