Story
Our amazing friend, Son, Brother and Uncle, John Black was admitted to A&E in the early hours of 8th October following a severe head injury.
A&E doctors saved his life and John was admitted to Intensive Care.
John spent the next 3 days on life support.
Doctors then attempted to “wake” John up but the pressure in his brain just wasn’t coping and he was immediately taken to Theatre for life-saving surgery.
John spent a further 5 gut wrenching days on life support.
On Tuesday 17th October, Doctors told us that John was stable enough for the “waking up” process to begin and being the warrior that he is, he came round.
John has been moved to High Dependency where he will begin his journey to recovery surrounded by people who love him and health care professionals who are looking after him every step of the way. John is coping well in his new Unit and we are all in complete awe of his sheer strength, fight and determination.
The care, support and respect John has been shown by Surgeons, Consultants, Doctors, Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Dieticians, Physios, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists are second to none and these people are really are worth their weight in gold.
Due to Johns surgery he has had part of his hair shaved - some of his friends, namely, Ryan Menzies, Jamie Robson, Jamie Moran, Kevin Cownie and Gary Sheilds have put themselves forward for a sponsored shave. Charlene and Declan have kindly offered their services, so you’re in safe hands boys!!! Photographic evidence will be supplied!!!
I have Johns blessing - and as his family and friends, we’d like to raise some money for the units at Ninewells who have so thoughtfully cared for John and supported his family - A&E, Intensive Care and Neuro High Dependency.
Here’s to the staff Ninewells who saved Johns life, (on more than one occasion). And of course, the boys, who are putting their vanity to the side to show John that they’re supporting him every way possible. Thank you. x
