Story

My name is Jenna (14) and I live in London with my family and whenever we can, we try and visit our relatives and cousins in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I’m lucky enough to be able to travel. What I have learned on my travels is that we are truly fortunate to live in a community where we are loved, supported, educated and cared for. But what happens if this is not the case?

This is where my cousin Raechel (19) comes in. She has lived in Port Elizabeth all her life and has devoted most of her life to helping others. She has been helping local charites for over 10 years now. Raechel has inspired me to look for the good in everyone and has had a massive influence on my passion for helping others. Her work inspires me everyday. So we have decided to work together. Raechel is going to raise funds in South Africa and I am raising funds in the UK to help our chosen charity in Port Elizabeth.

We have a theory that if one person could go out of their way to show compassion, it could start a chain reaction. We have bigger dreams but are starting small.

So even though as cousins we live millions of miles apart we share a hope and a dream to help those most in need. The world we live in is full of inequality and the ones that are affected the most are those without a voice.

We are determinded to make a difference to those who are less fortunate and do not have the ability or resources to affect change – therefore they are living life without a voice. So we want them to be heard and louder than everyone else, because everyones voice is important, especially those who do not have one.

We have seen many local charities around Port Elizabeth but we have decided to support the Walmer Angel Project. This charity is a non-profit organisation that helps the community of the Walmer Township. They mainly help young children throughout their young under privileged years. But they need funds from people to keep up the work they do. So this is why I have decided to challenge myself. I am going to raise funds for this charity by cycling 200km around Holland in my May half term . This will be a huge challenge for me physically and mentally.

All funds raised will be 100% donated to the charity and I have started the process by giving all my birthday money to this just giving page- which my kind friends and family gave me for my 14th birthday.

I will be visiting Port Elizabeth in August, where both Raechel and myself will personally be handing over the donations received as well as working within the Walmer Angel Project.

So please join Raechel and I on this journey and lets see if we can help those who do not have a voice.
