Story
I am taking part in the Snowdon Sunrise Walk on Saturday, 28th July 2018 (1am - 8am!) and in doing so, I would like to raise funds for the Honeysuckle Team based at Liverpool Woman’s Hospital
The Honeysuckle Team are a team of trained bereavement midwives and volunteers who support women and families who have suffered baby loss at any stage of pregnancy or a neonatal death.
The date of the Sunrise Walk resonates because, on the 28th July 2017, I sadly suffered my own loss and so a new journey working with the Honeysuckle ‘family’ began.
I wanted to mark her first anniversary in a significant and worth while way, and through a random Facebook post from ‘SVL Adventures’, I discovered that I could walk under ‘our’ little stars and raise some money to continue to help others.
This walk, will be a climb in the dark to the 1085m summit of Snowdon, under the stars and moonlight (weather permitting of course) to see the sunrise from the summit and then begin to descend as a fresh new day begins.
It will be a wonderful, and undoubtedly emotional experience and also a first for me (especially at 1am!) but I am looking forward to an opportunity to do something a little bit different and for an amazing cause.
From the moment a positive test is taken, you start to make plans. Whether you’re 4, 14, or 40 weeks pregnant, a loss is a loss, and raising an awareness of this taboo subject is equally as important for me as I had never heard of the Honeysuckle Team until I needed them...
The Honeysuckle Team provides practical guidance, information and emotional support to families, helping to explain formalities and guide families through difficult decisions.
The Honeysuckle Team run a monthly support group for anyone affected by the loss of a baby. The group is in a safe, confidential, friendly environment were you can talk openly with bereaved families who have gone through similar experiences
The funding that I hope to raise will help the Honeysuckle team to continue to provide this invaluable service to families.
It will cover the cost of replacing items, such as books that get donated to siblings in order to help them understand at an age appropriate level, what has happened in their family.
The funds will also help to replenish equally important supplies at the support meetings such as the refreshments... there is great strength found from a cup of tea and a good biscuit...!!
If you would like to donate to my cause or for more information on The Honeysuckle Teams work, please see the links below.
You’re generosity and support is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Jenny Cowell
