Weʼre raising £2,000 to Help Syrians after the earthquake

Story

A donation of £40 will feed a family for two weeks. £120 pays to rent a house for a year.

The Maté Café is a social group, started by members of the Syrian community and their friends in Brighton and Hove. We collaborate with refugees by offering cultural events aimed at helping different groups to integrate with each other and the wider community, celebrating their own cultures and sharing with others. We share maté tea, food and music from Syria and other countries so that everyone can learn about the other cultures living in the area. The Maté Café depends on the good will of the local community and the volunteers who arrange these community events.

This fund raiser is aimed specifically at the Syrian survivors of both the earthquake and the war. We wish to directly support a few small grass root charities we know and trust that are supporting those people and their families who have experienced both traumas. Your donation will go directly to the most vulnerable in small villages in Northern Syria that we have direct contact with and where access is very limited. The humanitarian aid will be determined in situ depending on the need at the time.

We will be sending the funds to Saiyar Jableh. This is a charity based in Jableh, a Mediterranean coastal town in Northern Syria located 25 Km South of Latakia City with an estimated number of 80,000 inhabitants.

Saiyar Jableh works in collaboration with other local grass roots charities. The team consists of mainly young people. Before the earthquake, Saiyar Jableh supported homeless children in Jableh who were orphaned during the war.

Maté Café supports the Syrian families who live in Brighton and Hove and have families back in Syria. The money donated will be used to purchase essentials and food which be distributed by Saiyar Jableh to the families specifically in areas where international help is not yet accessible.

The last fundraising event we supported was on the 18 March at Hove Park Lower School : Alnoure's Ramadan Bazaar and Food Festival .

Our next Maté Café will be on 30th April at the Friends Centre in Ship Street, Brighton.

Thank you in advance for this lifesaving donation. Time is of the essence in this new crisis. We will be sending aid in the quickest and safest way so that this urgent support arrives as soon as possible to those groups who know exactly what is needed in the moment.
