Story

In February 2016, at just 43 years of age, Jenny felt a tingling in her left wrist. It took over 6 months to receive a diagnosis, by which time she had lost the use of her left arm, her speech was becoming slurred and she was losing the use of her left leg. Today, Jenny only has mobility in her right hand. She can no longer walk, talk or swallow and is dependent upon her right to communicate via an IPAD, yet she remains cheerful. She has to, she has a nine year old son.

In order to be a good parent, Jenny took a part-time job, close to home with much reduced earnings. This means she has no savings to pay for the care she needs constantly. She cannot be left alone, and can no longer do anything for herself. Her partner Toby has given up work to be her full time carer, surviving with just one support visit of 3 hours a day and 2 overnight supports per week. This leaves little time or energy to support Henry, or even deliver him to and collect him from any activities that are available free to him.

This family needs additional care in the short time Jenny has remaining to ensure this family can face the future as a family unit. They urgently need help with transport to get to and from appointments, some additional overnight care and some week long respite breaks for Jenny. Any additional support you can give, would help this family remain united and positive and give Jenny a good death.
