Story

Hi, I’m Charlie, a volunteer at Jenny’s Cat House.

Many of you may have followed the story of street-wise Tomcat George O’Malley. He fought hard, but sadly, despite everything we tried, George passed over the rainbow bridge. His suffering ended, but his story will always stay with me and it’s what brought me to Jenny.

When I found George, I was desperate. I reached out to large rescue organisations, but no one could help. I’d never dealt with a feral, injured street cat before and I felt completely helpless. Then I found Jenny’s Cat House.

After just one message, Jenny and her team drove all the way from Hessle. They stepped in without hesitation. They showed me how to trap safely, how to care for cats in crisis, and most of all, they showed me that I wasn’t powerless — even through my own struggles with mental health, agoraphobia, panic attacks, CPTSD and physical illness. Jenny helped me see that I could still make a difference.

And that’s what Jenny does. Every single day, she saves the cats others won’t. She picks up the pieces after humans have failed them. She brings comfort, safety and love to animals who’ve known nothing but fear and neglect.

Right now, Jenny needs our help. The rescue has had to temporarily stop taking in new cats. There are over 100 cats and kittens at the rescue, with another 30 plus in foster. Our trusted vet, who’s worked with us for years, can no longer continue providing regular care until a significant part of the vet bill is cleared.

This means we can’t move forward with essentials like microchipping, vaccinations, or neutering all of which are crucial to responsible rescue and rehoming. The rescue is stuck, and without urgent support, we can’t help any more cats.

I am asking for help from the amazing Hull community and further afield to raise £15,000 to go directly towards:

Clearing the vet bill so treatment can continue

Covering costs for spaying, neutering, microchipping and vaccines

Feeding and caring for the cats already at the rescue

Supporting safe, responsible rehoming

Jenny’s Cat House is a registered charity, run from the heart and the home of someone who never turns away a cat in need. But without support from fellow cat lovers, she simply can’t continue this life-saving work.

If you’ve ever loved an animal, ever rooted for the underdog, ever wanted to make a difference this is your moment. Please give what you can, and help us carry on this work in George’s memory, and for the hundreds of others still waiting for a second chance.

Thank you,

Charlie
