Story

JENS TEN (10 X 10k's within 10 Weeks)

I am planning to run 10 x 10km's within 10weeks. Not only will this be a personal challenge for me after injuring my knee last year, but also a chance to raise money for a place very close to my heart: Tortworth VC Primary School.

I started working at Tortworth Primary School after leaving school in 2015, as a level 2 administrative apprentice. With the support of staff I grew in confidence and skills, completing my level 3 award, before moving on to my current job in January 2019.

Tortworth Primary is a small rural school, with separate forest pre-school and after school club, and is a located just off junction 14 of the M5. It lies on the northern edge of South Gloucestershire in the beautiful grounds of Tortworth Estate. Being rural has enormous benefits, allowing the children the freedom of being taught in unique surroundings, with fantastic outdoor facilities like: an amphitheatre/outdoor classroom, Wild Woods, gym, peace garden, MUGA and lots more.

However, funding within schools across England is challenging, with South Gloucestershire being one of the worst funded areas nationally. Many local schools are either getting extremely close to or are already in financial difficulties and are having to make more & more cuts to the education they provide to their children. Sadly some schools are having to question the most precious resource to a child’s education yet biggest saving: Teaching staff. Therefore, with increasing pressures of OFSTED, education is tough to maintain or even develop with the limitations of these cuts. The short time I worked in the education system, it was one of my biggest concerns and that is what has motivated me to RUN FOR THE SCHOOL.

I cannot address the fairer funding crisis in schools, but I can raise as much as possible to ensure that the pupils at Tortworth Primary get the same FUN experiences that make learning and education meaningful and memorable like; educational trips, new playground equipment and other great resources.
