Hi, for those of you who don't know me, I'm a 19 year old mental health nursing student in my first year of training. Over the years I have lost people from mental illness and have had many close calls with others. Mental illness is so prevalent within our society today, I feel it doesn't have the acknowledgement, acceptance nor funding to be up to the highest of standards. Every year 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health illness, leading to a signifcant strain on mental health nurses and support workers, especially in the NHS.
Mind is a charity that provides advice and support for those suffering within the United Kingdom. They campaign in order to improve services and make a difference in equality and mental health patients rights. I chose Mind because of it's determination to ensure everyone receives some form of help, as they state 'they will not give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect' which i couldn't agree more with. By raising this money i hope to change someone's opinion on mental health which will be a move in the right direction!
I will be running 10km in Brighton on the 9th of April and hope to do it in under 45 minutes. In order to this I aim to raise as much money as possible to support Mind and promote mental health awareness. I am doing this for all the people who have taken their own lives, the families who have lost a loved one because of mental illness and too all the sufferers currently in the world.
