Update from Jess

🌻 THANK YOU 🌻

Asking for money was always going to be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. It just didn't feel right to ask people for help in this way.

But what has happened over the past few days has been one of the most uplifting experiences of my life.

I have been completely blown away by the generosity of so many people. From complete strangers to school friends I haven't seen since I was 10 years old, your kindness has left me speechless.

It has been an incredibly humbling experience, and I can't begin to express how grateful I am.

Every donation, every share and every message of support has reminded me just how wonderful people can be.

Because of you, my first Enhertu infusion is now scheduled for next Thursday.

We're keeping everything crossed that I stay well enough to receive it and, of course, that it works.

Whatever happens next, you've given me something I didn't have before – hope. And for that, I will be forever thankful.

One thing I would ask is that you also please sign the petition calling for Enhertu to be made available on the NHS in England.

Had it been available, I would have been able to start this treatment much sooner.

At the time of writing, the petition still needs 5,282 signatures. NICE and the drug companies have been issuing the same statements about "ongoing negotiations" since December, yet little has changed. Seven months have passed while discussions continue, but for people living with incurable breast cancer, time isn't something we can afford to lose.

Women are quite literally dying while they wait.

Hopefully together, we can be the change.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for standing beside me and my family. Your kindness means more than words could ever say.

With love,

Jess x

Update 07/07/26

We continue to be blown away by the response to this campaign, as well as the money raised which will hopefully given Jess more time with her family, the signature count on the petition is growing.

Thank you to everyone who has supported by donating, sharing and signing the petition.

Jess has appointments booked to find out when the treatment can start and we'll keep you updated as soon as we know more.

THANK YOU!

Update 02/07/26

We don't quite know what to say, we can confirm there are a lot of tears of pure gratitude. THANK YOU to everyone who has donated, shared and signed the petition.

This will mean so much to Jess and her family, her first two treatments are covered. But we are thinking maybe we can still do more, so we’ve upped the target!

Wouldn’t it be amazing to raise enough for three, four treatments?! So please keep sharing and don’t forget to sign the petition!

Sending everyone so much love xxx

Why we’re raising money

Jess has stage 4 breast cancer and has been given 6 weeks to live. She has a wonderful husband, two incredible children and Bramble the dog and while the thought of life without her is a reality, it doesn’t have to be only 6 weeks away.

Jess’s doctors believe a drug called Enhertu could give her more time with her family. With teenage children, a loving family and so much life still to live, even a few more weeks, and hopefully months, would be priceless.

However, while Enhertu isn’t priceless, currently it’s not available on the NHS in England, and while we’d like to say this is because of safety, or availability, it’s sadly because of money.

NHS England and the drug companies can’t agree on a price; perhaps they should remember time is priceless.

We’re raising £25,000 (and hopefully more) so that Jess can privately fund the treatment and care that might mean she can spend those extra weeks and hopefully months enjoying the simple pleasures of taking care of her family, laughing with them, hugging them, making memories, and sharing the everyday moments that mean everything.

The first £25,000 will pay for the first two rounds of treatment, which should be enough to know whether the drug is working. If it does not work, any leftover funds will be put towards funeral costs, with anything remaining donated to cancer charities.

We know money does not grow on trees, but if you can spare even a small amount, Jess and her family would be forever grateful. Together, we can give her a gift no one should ever have to fundraise for: time.

As well as donating, if you can, please consider signing the petition calling on the NHS and drug companies to agree a price, so that other families across England may also be given the priceless gift of time.

In Jess's words

I have stage 4 breast cancer and have been given 6 weeks to live. The Hail Mary chemo I was on didn’t work, and the only chemo left on the NHS has less than 5% chance of working according to my team of oncologists. It’s so dire they would support me rejecting that chemo in order to die with a better quality of life. However, if I can fund Enhertu, they all agree it has a really good shot at working and for a meaningful period of time.

It feels icky and horrible to be asking for money, it goes against my pride and dignity, but the alternative is to die or jeopardise the future financial security of my family which is the opposite of what I would want and strive for.

The cancer I have is low Her 2 positive, and studies and real-life treatment using the drug Enhertu demonstrate it is still very effective as an end of line treatment in heavily pretreated patients like me. It is also very effective at crossing the blood brain barrier which is important due to my brain mets. I’m now in a race to get it into me in the next week before my liver starts failing.

Unfortunately, it isn’t available on the NHS in England because Nice, NHS England, and pharmaceutical companies Daiichi Sankyo and AstraZeneca, still can’t agree on a price. It’s available in Scotland and 26 other European countries which is how we know how effective a treatment it could be. The only way for me to get it is to pay for the drug, and frustratingly, the associated private healthcare costs. My oncology team have explored all other NHS avenues to access this drug via NHS such as paying for drug directly but via NHS, but frustratingly via private healthcare is the only way due to NHS rules. This means we have to take on associated nursing costs etc as well as the actual medication.

We are initially looking to raise £25000 which should adequately cover the first 2 doses and associated private healthcare costs. At the moment we think it will be up to £11,000 per cycle, but we will try to bring that number down if we can.

By two cycles we will know if the drug works simply because I will either be alive or not.

If the drug isn’t successful, we would use any leftover funds towards funeral costs and donate anything remaining to cancer charities.

We hope, beyond hope, that it does work in which case we will be back asking for more help, and looking at any way possible to reduce the costs. There is still the chance that the drug companies and NICE strike a deal in which case we simply switch back to the NHS.

Please also sign this petition so that others like me don’t have to do this.

Thank you for taking the time to consider helping.
