Story
Stuck in a dead-end job serving coffee, Kayla longs for something more. But a chance meeting opens the door to a high-powered job in the world of PR. A new world, with a dark side. Plunged into a ‘work hard, play hard’ culture, imposter syndrome and a secret relationship with her boss, Kayla’s story is a rollercoaster that spirals out of control. “The High Life” is a witty, intimate drama exploring toxic workplaces, relationships, systemic racism and the pressure to be a success through the eyes of a young Black woman.
Forest Theatre Company’s latest show stars Feyisara Mendes as Kayla Harris. It is witty, honest and also an important story that centres on Black women’s real life experiences, redefining what it really means to be successful. From the beginning of this project, it has been imperative for our creative team to collaborate during the show’s development. We have already had the privilege of listening to amazing Black women working in the corporate world, connecting with Black artists and collaborating with exceptional creatives that make up our team.
We are proud of the project so far and are looking forward to sharing the story with you all in February 2023 at Barons Court Theatre. However, in order to share this project, we need help to bring it to life. We are seeking support for costume, props, and rehearsal space. In our modern age of hyper-commercialism there has never been a better time to tell these stories, and we strive to tell them as authentically and beautifully as possible. Thank you and see you at the Barons Court Theatre, 14-18th February 2023!
