    Story

A World Scout Jamboree is an international event that takes place every four years and it is when thousands of scouts from all across the world gather together to unite and learn important social, moral, and life skills. So far, there have been 23 jamborees since 1929  except during WW2 and in 1979. In 2019 the jamboree is to take place in America- West Virginia. The 24th World Scout Jamboree is planned to be the largest and best jamboree yet as  instead of having a single host country, it is a team effort between Scouts of Canada, Association of Scouts of Mexico and the Boy Scouts of America. The theme is "Unlock a new World" because they plan to have workshops looking at sustainability issues , cultural differences and unlocking new friendships. Other themes include: global development, faith and beliefs, a cultural experience day, and much, much more.

I have been selected by the scouts of Greater Manchester West to represent Bolton and Horwich in this World Wide event along with approximately 32 others from Greater Manchester. I am the only member from Horwich attending. The selection process involved an application form,  weekend camp and interview.

This amazing experience takes a lot of commitment as I have to fundraise £4000 in order to partake in this. It is an awfully large sum of money but this covers: training camps; equipment beforehand, during and afterwards; food; the jamboree experience; HoHo (Home hospitality for the days after the jamboree) and everything else like insurance etc. The sum also covers fundraising to send scouts from more deprived countries to the jamboree.  The UK contingent believes it is our duty to help those who need it .The £4000 must be fundraised or given through sponsorship and it is up to me to gather the expenses needed.

I kindly request your help in my journey and hope you agree to assist me. Throughout this year I will be very busy preparing. Here are a few set dates and activities: Sat 20th Jan (badge design), Sun 4th Mar (23 mile 'the Peers' Challenge Hike sponsored walk), 13th-15th April (camp), 1st Jul (fundraiser), 9th Sept (social meet up) and they are just the set ones. I am designing badges, hats, wristbands; will be doing many stalls including bake sales, valentines packages and a 'guess the M&Ms in a jar' challenge; as well as household services like mowing lawns, laundry services, bag packing, car washes etc..

The jamboree experience is not just the three weeks  I will spend in America, it will be before and after the trip. I will be doing lots of presentations and will gladly come and speak to you if you would like to meet me or know anything about the jamboree.

Thank you for kindly spending your time to read this information and I hope you consider helping me fundraise by as much as you possibly can.
