Story
I'm raising money for my mum's sewing group in her church in South Africa. There is no such thing as 'the dole' in South Africa and so people without qualifications do what they can to earn a living. Here's a little bit from my mum about her group of ladies:
"These ladies have very little but they are prepared to work. This small group came together to see if they could use the sewing skills they had, learn more, and make items to sell.
We use the premises of my church, use hand me down sewing machines, donated material and other necessary items bought with the profits. We make anything which might be sellable, bags, skirts, cards, Christmas angels, towels, face cloths, etc. We are now making mortarboards for graduates!
They come together once a week, for no pay, and work. We have a great time, laughter and banter, and a feeling of well being. Over the years they have grown in self confidence and this self help group is ready to move forward.
I don't have the words to describe what this small enterprise has done for my ladies. If you met them you would feel it. They started meek and unsure, they felt worthless. Now they have grown into a more confident, gelled little band - it's wonderful to see.
Any donations goes 100% to them and is used very wisely."
Everything they have is donated, but they can only create so much from second hand sewing machines. I would like to raise money to give them some new machines to give them that step up to grow as a group and an enterprise.
Any donations goes 100% to them and is used very wisely!
